In Nujiang, Yunnan, I heard from a Chinese Church worker that there are over 500 churches and over 100,000 Christians in Nujiang.  Most of the churches are scattered across the mountains.  The service I attended in Fugong was very lively and the Lisu people both danced and sang very loudly.  It reminded me of a church service back home and some of the songs I heard even had the same melodies.  On my way back to Kunming, I met a Chinese man who told me a wonderful story:

Matthew 15:30-31 "And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them: Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

There was a faithful believer that lived in the countryside.  At that time I was a missionary in another village and when he heard that I was there, he came to me by bus.  He told me that his father had been crazy for 38 years (mental problems) and asked, "If all of my family believes in Jesus, could my father be healed?"  I told him, "You just believe in Jesus.  Dont ask anything, God knows what to do.  He shows mercy and kindness to everyone on the earth."  After he listened to me, all of his family believed in Jesus very faithfully, and his father was healed completely.  When his neighborhood saw this, another seven families all believed in Jesus together.  They all said, Jesus truly is the miracle."

Then I decided to travel to the location where the miracles had taken place as described in the book found near Deqin.  I found a Catholic church in the area and a man there verified the stories saying that they were true, and that he even knew the man whose name was on the cover of the book.  We talked for a while and he explained why Jesus's name wasn't in the miracle stories.  When they say God, they know it means Jesus.  After some time with him, my travelling companion and I visited another nearby church and some people there told us of some miracles that had happened.  One Chinese man mentioned:

My name is ? ? ? and I'm an ordinary "soldier", but I believe in Jesus very faithfully.  I have a younger sister who came down with chronic appendicitis before whe was married.  After she was married, she became pregnant.  At that time, her disease gave her much pain and it seemed like she must be operated on immediately.  However, the doctor told her that she must first induce an abortion and then she could have the operation.  To give a pregnant woman this operation was very difficult and the patient must be anestheticized which could have influenced the baby.  If she went along with the operation, maybe the baby would never exist.  Then, all our family and relatives could do was pray, "May God bless her."  Later God heard our prayers and took away her disease.

Another woman whom was present told two stories, one of which, was her testimony of how God had healed her of cancer.

She had come down with cancer in her abdominal cavity when she was about forty years old.  During 1988-1989 her belly expanded very badly (As they told me this story, they made hand motions and signaled how round her stomach was).  In the hospital, even the best doctor concluded that there was no way to cure the cancer.  The doctor also suggested to her children that they should treat her well and prepare for her funeral because the cancer was in a late stage of development.  After she heard the news, she found a priest within the Christian community.  He had been a doctor before retiring to work for the community.  The priest prayed for her and gave her some Chinese traditional medicine along with some other non-Chinese medicines (20% glucose solution bottle and something similar to, if not, penicillin).  He administered the penicillin twice.  After she took the medicine, her cancer went away!

Dead Three Year Old Son Brought Back to Life

A Chinese man had a three year old son who had died after being operated on at the largest hospital in the area.  His body had been placed into a mortuary (Once a body goes into the room, it's over).  However, they didn't want to believe the news, and so took their son's body to the Christian community's hospital.  The Priest prayed for the boy, massaged him and gave him acupuncture.  Later the boy was revived and the Priest became more and more well-known.  (next page)
